About Us

Balanced Living Health Limited was setup up by John Streets, an experienced IT veteran and entrepreneur, with the simple aim of empowering people with diabetes to self-manage their condition effectively. John's insight into diabetes originates from his mother who lived with the condition for more than 40 years.

"I know from my mother's experiences how important it is for a person with diabetes to understand how to manage their condition day to day. Healthcare professionals can't be with you 24/7 and sometimes they don't even fully understand your care needs. People with diabetes need to feel empowered to take charge of their condition and ensure that they receive the care that they deserve and have a right to."

After the successful sale of the LSE AIM listed software company he founded in 1995, John was looking for a new challenge.

"From my previous experience as a successful software entrepreneur, I know how innovative software can solve problems. I believe that technology has the power to change people's lives for the better and that's why I setup Balanced Living Health."

The Diabetes Challenge

The health problems associated with diabetes and the demands on healthcare services created by the condition increase daily. Currently there are more than 4.7 million people in the UK who have been diagnosed with diabetes, with 90% of these being Type 2. It is estimated that someone in the UK is diagnosed with type 2 diabetes every 2 minutes. The NHS spends £1 million per hour on diabetes, with 80% of this spent on treating the health problems, or complications, associated with diabetes. Over 2 thirds of people don't fully understand their condition and only 2 in 5 people with type 2 diabetes are reaching their treatment targets that will reduce the likelihood of complications.

Our Solution

The Balanced Living™ app addresses the growing cost and health impact of type 2 diabetes by encouraging people to self-manage their condition with the support of healthcare professionals. It aims to provide a holistic approach to diabetes, promote a healthier lifestyle and reduce the likelihood of complications. We've focussed on the newly diagnosed because it is such a critical time to establish good health behaviours. We hope to improve the long-term health of people with diabetes and reduce the costs to healthcare services.
